Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) continues to break records amid strong passenger traffic. The airlines added 8% more capacity and passenger enplanements increased by 9% in the third quarter of CY2019. With this record-setting quarter, SDF is on pace to have its busiest year in the airport’s history.
“The Louisville market is very strong and this shows the confidence air service providers have in it,” said Dan Mann, Executive Director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority. “This steady growth reflects the community’s response to our expanded air service, which makes the airlines take notice and consider us for future routes and increased service.”
The greatest gains in the third quarter stemmed from American and Southwest Airlines. American’s nonstop service to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), increased service to Miami International Airport (MIA) and larger aircraft to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) have helped fuel the growth. Nonstop routes to Texas’ William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) in Houston and Dallas Love Field (DAL) by Southwest were also key factors in this quarter’s increase.
The remainder of 2019 continues to build on this momentum. Allegiant Airlines recently resumed seasonal service to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) and will begin their seasonal service to Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) on Monday, November 25. The airline also extended flights to the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) through early January 2020.
Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport is served by six airlines offering flights to more than 30 nonstop destinations including 19 of the region’s top 20 domestic markets. With just one stop, travelers from across the region can reach more than 460 destinations in the U.S. and worldwide.
