Passengers at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) now have an option to help offset their carbon footprint thanks to a new partnership with The Good Traveler. Founded in 2015, The Good Traveler is a first-of-its kind carbon offset program that brings together leading airports and offers travelers a simple way to make their air travel more sustainable.
SDF joins nearly 20 industry-related partners as part of this national program that to date has helped reduce more than 86,000 metric tons of carbon. Other airport members include Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
“We continue to look for innovative ways to make travel more sustainable and The Good Traveler is exactly that,” said Dan Mann, Executive Director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority. “Travelers at SDF now have an easy, straightforward option to minimize carbon impacts while supporting projects designed to reduce greenhouse gases. We are proud to add our name to the growing list of industry elites supporting these efforts.”
To offset the carbon emissions from their flights, travelers simply visit www.TheGoodTraveler.org, enter the origin and destination cities of their flights and have the option to purchase offsets. Offset purchases then directly fund credible projects across the country including forest management, geo sequestration and a methane capture and destruction project. While there are no projects currently in Kentucky, staff will work with The Good Traveler to hopefully identify and certify a local project SDF travelers can directly support.

The Good Traveler is strictly voluntary and is the first airport-based offset provider that targets accelerating the decarbonization of the aviation industry.
