Skip Miller, Executive Director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority (LRAA), notified the LRAA Board of Directors at its regular meeting of his intent to retire no later than March 31, 2018. Miller, who has led the Authority since September 2003, said that a great deal has been accomplished over the last 14 years and that this is a perfect time for him to step back.
“It has been a distinct privilege to close out my career by serving this great city. Our very talented staff, guided by our knowledgeable board, always keeps a sharp eye on the future. That’s why our airports are and will remain the prime economic engine of the region,” Miller said. Jim Welch, Chairman of the LRAA Board said Miller’s professional skill and strong leadership produced outstanding results during his tenure as executive director.
“Under Skip’s leadership, we’ve just completed a beautiful renovation of our terminal, we’ve prepared our airfield to accept a new generation of larger aircraft and, not long ago, we refinanced all of our debt to great advantage. These and many more of his successes mean that Louisville International and Bowman Field are prepared to serve this city and region for decades to come,” Welch said. Miller said that he has agreed to defer his full retirement to as late as March 2018, to complete certain important strategic projects, provided he is able to gradually reduce his day-to-day management responsibilities.
To facilitate the transition the board agreed to contract with Karen Scott, former LRAA Deputy Executive Director Louisville International Airport (SDF) www.FlyLouisville.com Bowman Field (LOU) for Planning and Development, to return effective May 1, 2017 to assume day-to-day staff management while the search for Miller’s replacement is underway. In other action, the board will retain ADK Consulting of Florida to conduct a national search for the position of executive director.
