August 13, 2012
Today, the airport celebrated the launch of Southwest Airlines’ new low-fare nonstop jet service between Louisville International Airport (SDF) and Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL). Southwest now offers three daily nonstop flights to Atlanta using 137-seat Boeing 737 aircraft. “This new service not only helps Louisvillians connect for pleasure travel—it makes it easier for business and commerce from Atlanta and the world to connect to Louisville, which helps create new jobs and economic growth,” said Mayor Greg Fischer.
“Atlanta is a vital business destination for Louisville and we are pleased to welcome low-fare service to this very important business market,” said Phil Lynch, Chairman of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority Board. “Southwest Airlines is pleased to introduce new service to Atlanta to our longtime Louisville customers,” said Myles Hanna, Southwest Airlines Station Leader. ”Atlanta is an important market for both business and leisure travel, and the new service opens up even more of the Southwest Airlines network to passengers in Louisville.” With this announcement, Southwest Airlines will offer 18 daily nonstop flights to eight destinations including Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago/Midway, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix, St. Louis and Tampa.
