American Airlines Continues Growth at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport

December 9, 2022

Second daily flight to Boston to begin in Spring 2023

American Airlines continues its expansion at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) with a second daily flight to Boston and larger, mainline jets on multiple routes. Beginning on April 5, 2023, American will offer a second daily flight between SDF and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS). American also introduced larger aircraft to multiple flights between Louisville and their hubs in Dallas (DFW), Charlotte (CLT) and Miami (MIA).

Mainline jets will operate as many as seven daily flights from SDF with a mixture of Airbus A320 series and Boeing 737 series aircraft ranging from 128 to 190 seats. This is a significant increase over the 76-seat jets they are replacing by offering more than 65% to upwards of 150% more seats on a single flight. Each aircraft offers Wi-Fi, streaming entertainment and three classes of service onboard. American’s seat capacity at SDF during the first quarter of 2023 is up 14% compared to the same period in 2019.

“American has seen very positive results here at SDF,” said Dan Mann, Executive Director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority. “The Louisville region is booming with corporate and tourism growth that is driving demand and these flight increases are evident of that. We appreciate American’s on-going commitment to our airport and look forward to their continued support.”

American launched its daily flight to Boston in late May, which was a key milestone for SDF by gaining service to the then-largest unserved market for Louisville. This flight offers the region’s travelers and businesses a key link to the northeast as well as international connections to Doha, London, Tokyo, Barcelona and Madrid.

“American Airlines is pleased to continue rebuilding its service offerings at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport and adding a second daily flight from Boston,” said Philippe Puech, American’s Director of Domestic Network Planning. “We are eager to continue providing local residents access to American’s global network with nonstop flights to Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami, New York, Philadelphia and Washington D.C., offering customers hundreds of one-stop destinations around the world.”

American is Louisville’s largest airline, with 25 weekday departures and nonstop service to eight destinations including Boston, Charlotte, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami, New York-LaGuardia, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.-Reagan National.

“Response to SDF’s air service growth in the past 18-months has been phenomenal,” added Anthony Gilmer, Director of Marketing and Air Service Development for the Airport Authority. “Louisville has seen an incredible run of increased air service in a short period of time and I’m optimistic that we can continue to build upon this moving forward.”
