Louisville Regional Airport Authority

Welcome to the Louisville Regional Airport Authority (LRAA) page. Here we’ll explain some of the finer details behind Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) and Bowman Field (LOU). To start, LRAA is an autonomous municipal corporation established by KY state statute. LRAA is responsible for owning, operating and developing Louisville’s two major airports. The forerunner of LRAA was established in 1928 by the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s General Assembly and was the first authority-type governed airport in the United States.

Funding
Think of LRAA like a private corporation that is self-funded and receives operating revenue from a wide variety of user fees. Such fees and revenues include leases for terminal and land use, landing fees, parking, rental cars and other ground transportation. The LRAA receives no local or state funding for any of the necessary routine operations at SDF and LOU. Click here for current annual revenue and expense budgets.
