Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport Construction Update: Parking and Terminal Access from Surface Lot
November 18, 2019
To better accommodate a growing customer base, the Louisville Regional Airport Authority is improving its parking options at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF). Construction for additional Surface Lot parking is currently underway as well as expanded parking on the airport’s east side.
Due to the on-going construction, beginning today, Monday, November 18, pedestrian access between the Surface Lot and Jerry E. Abramson Terminal will only be available by way of Level 2 in the parking garage. The temporary walkway is located on Level 2 of the garage’s northwest side (closest to the American, Allegiant and United ticket counters), or between Rows M and N in the Surface Lot.
Motorists who park in the Surface Lot are encouraged to use the complimentary shuttle for transport to and from the terminal building. Shuttle stops in the Surface Lot are located at Rows D, J and U.
Surface Lot Access from the Terminal
To access the temporary walkway from the terminal, travelers should proceed through the West Tunnel (closest to baggage carousels A, B and C) and use the elevators to Level 2. (Stairs to Level 2 are also available immediately outside the exterior doors.) From the elevators on Level 2, proceed down the first row of parked vehicles to the immediate left, towards the rear of the parking garage. The temporary walkway to the Surface Lot will be immediately visible.
Terminal Access from the Surface Lot
Motorists who park in the Surface Lot are encouraged to use the complimentary shuttle to the terminal. Shuttle stops in the Surface Lot are located at Rows D, J and U. For motorists who wish to walk, the entrance to the temporary walkway is located between Rows M and N. Once in the garage, access to the elevators and stairs to enter the terminal will be immediately visible.
In addition to parking improvements in the Surface Lot, the airport’s Observation Waiting Area (formerly known as the Cell Phone Lot) is now located on Crittenden Drive, immediately next to the United States Post Office at 4440 Crittenden Drive. Motorists waiting to pick-up individuals may access the airport’s roadways through the west entrance by way of Martha Moloney Drive, following signs for arriving passengers. The area on the airport’s east side previously known as the Cell Phone Lot is currently under construction to become additional parking for travelers.
Messer Construction is facilitating work on both the expanded Surface Lot, as well as the additional lot on the airport’s east side. The airport is investing more than $5.3 million to construct 1,000-plus parking spaces that will be open for use in early January 2020.
Parking Rate and Equipment
To provide motorists a smooth and convenient experience, airport parking operator SP+ is currently updating the equipment used to access the Parking Garage, Surface Lot and Credit Card Only Lot. These improvements are part of a $1.5 million investment from SP+ into parking operations at the airport. Upgrades to the parking equipment are expected to be complete by the end of the year.
In addition to equipment upgrades, the rate for garage parking is now the same on all four levels, meaning there is no longer a difference for Under Four Hours verses Over Four Hours. The garage parking rate is a maximum cost of $13.00 per day, remaining the same as areas previously noted as Over Four Hours. Motorists will now pay this rate for all parking on Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4. Hourly rates are applied for those who park a short time to drop-off or pick-up someone. Hourly rates are $2.00 for up to the first hour, and then $2.00 for every hour after. Designated handicap parking is available.
